Though Europe is the continent in which Roma live, there's no European country that wants them inside her boarders. The discriminations against them haven't settled down since the years that they first accessed Europe -namely 1,000 years approximately- and European governments and leaderships all these centuries have tried all the possible ways to eradicate or even ruin them. From the Ιnquisition to the First and the Second World Wars, till the recent Roma percecutions from the French government, Roma everyday live in fear and insecurity. Instead of inventing ways to eradicate them, governments along with the locals, should find ways to live along with Roma in harmony.

"Confusing" Roma with immigrants?
http://www.enet.gr/?i=news.el.article&id=276484
The recent incidents with the immigrants in the center of Athens provoked a chain of other brutal episodes from the local residents and the response of the Greek government. Except from the measures applied for the immigrants, the Minister of the Resident's Protection, Christos Papoutsis, announced that additional measures -namely intensification of the police monitoring- will be taken in the Roma camps. These facts reminded me the start of the massive Roma percececutions in France, initiated by the French Prime Minister Nicola Sarcozi. The French residents were irritated by the incidents that some Roma immigrants had provoked. Nicola Sarcozi's popularity had started to decrease -such as the Greek government's popularity- and so he decided to announce the Roma percecutions. It seems that the Greek government also tries to take advantage of the recent occation and intensify the surveilance in the Roma communities. The posibility to see the same actions with those of the French's goverment have seriously raised and it's time for the human rights organizations or the European instruments to act before it is too late.

Greece in the first position in the Roma exclusion from schools
http://www.protagon.gr/?i=protagon.el.article&id=3344
Unfortunately the Roma inclusion to the Greek education is still in its first stages. There's no essential contribution or change since 1996, when the burdensome programes concerning the Roma education had been launched. This is a fact confirmed not only by the external evaluators only, but also by the Greek Μinistry of Education. The figures also confirm the inadequacy of the Greek state, as the percentage of the Roma children that don't enroll to school reaches the 77%. Τhe conviction og Greece given by the European court is pending and it's only up to the Greek state to act immediately and not be proclaimed as "European champion" in the school exclusion of Roma children.

I'm Roma woman
The fact that there are Roma women that managed to change their life through education, is a very optimistic message. Don't forget that Roma don't enroll their daughters at schools and many of them are oblidged to stay at home and get married in a very young age and again stay at home for the rest of their lives. They don't usually have opportunities to get the job they want, or be educated. Another think you certainly noticed in the video is that all of these women are activists and defenders of the human rights. All these look really nice at first site, but unfortunately these women are a really tiny minority of the Roma women who are uneducated. We must look for ways to raise the figures of the educated Roma women.

Spineli for Roma
The Roma stigma
The stories of some Roma people of Romanian origin are unfoldered in the video. Some live under miserable conditions in Romania and some others live their country for another, seeking for a better future. What they have in common, is the racism they face, in any place of the world. Nobody counts on them, people care for them only if they want to take advantage of them. The money that Roma people earn from their work are always scant and, of course they always work for other people, as they are uneducated. Τhough it's hard for someone to admit, poverty gives no hope for people like Roma and, even if they try hard to bilk from this situation, it's not only up to them. People must realize that only through the close cooperation the situation can change. The sooner the governments and the Roma communities realize that, the better will be for all of us.
Rom-Nikos Kypourgos
This is one of my favorite film songs, composed by the great Greek composer Nikos Kypourgos, for the soundtrack of the homonymous movie, directed by Menelaos Karamagiolis. It is translated inside the video, in the Greek language. The lyrics are wtitten by an anonymous Roma person, probably poet, and describes the willingnes of a person to be Roma, though it is hard for someone to be one. It also shows the uncertainty of being Roma. Generally this kind of songs concerning the Roma community have meet sucess and have also been adored by the audience, but when it comes to the discussion of the real problems that the Roma people face, noone is sentimental or romantic.
Greek government's initiatives

According to the Greek Ministry's of Education and Religion's release, new -European sponsored- educational programs concerning the Roma minority are to run, during the 2010-2011 school period. The Greek Ministry of Education seems to support these efforts, such as the enrollment and the active participation of the Roma children to the Greek schools. Keeping that similar efforts from the government's side have failed the past years, it is questionable if the announcements will ever become reality.

Roma Percecutions
file:///E:/Sideri/Migration%20Theories/Roma%20Project/2011_378094.htm
Τhe necessity for new measures concerning Roma community is nowadays more obvious than ever. Even in a continent like Europe, where a lot of discussion about the human rights have take place, there are no measures taken for the Roma community particularly. The Roma percecutions recently by the French prime minister Nicola Sarcozi have raised a lot of debate between the supporters of the human rights and the supporters of other organizations or political parties. The point is that all Europe now faces a challenge that cannot further avoid. As the European Committe Mrs Reting stressed, there are regulations signed by all the 27 European members and the European Committee has the duty to defend these rules.
